Happy Sunday! Body recomposition...what is it?! If we type it into the Google machine, we get "body recomposition is the process of simultaneously losing body fat and gaining muscle mass. It involves altering body composition by shifting the ratio of fat to muscle." This is MOST LIKELY what everyone wants and the outcome we hope to get when we embark on a fitness journey. This is also HARD as hell and very difficult to achieve 😉. Most people think it's so easy peasy. Like "oh yeah, the minute I start to lift the tiniest weight I'm automatically going
to start building allllllll this muscle and losing body fat!" NAHT so fast Susy Q. It takes a really long time to build muscle. Like a really long time. Trust me, I've been trying to do it for the last 18 years of my life and
I'm still not where I want to be. It also takes a really long time and a strategic plan in order for our body to recognize we want to burn body fat. Correct calorie, protein and daily movements are just some examples that can help get us
there. If your goal is to improve your body composition (which I think it should be for most people), then prioritizing strength training and working toward goals in the gym is one of the smartest approaches you can
take. Rather than constantly chasing fat loss or aesthetic changes or cardio or "insert stupid thing here", I encourage you to focus on getting stronger and setting performance based goals such as hitting personal records, increasing
your reps + weights each week and understanding how building muscle really works. Progressive overload is the king of strength training. Doing more over time ensures that you’re placing increasing mechanical tension on the muscles, causing them to grow. Resulting in your body gaining
muscle...which is what you want. Exercising is wayyyyyyy more fun when you’re strong. Just ask some of my clients who don't have lower back pain anymore because they deadlift over 150lbs. Or some of them who got their first chin up or pull up or
finally busted out some push ups without being on their knees, it’s fucking awesome. You’re more likely to stick with strength training and keep making physique improvements if you love your training.....or if you have an
AMAZING trainer to teach ya😉! |
