Happy Sunday!
I have some strong ass clients. Like really strong. But one
just recently deadlifted 230lbs and I want to highlight that!
My client Karen of 3 years hex bar deadlifted 230lbs for 1 rep on Friday afternoon this week, May 16th, 2025. It was fucking awesome. Karen recently turned
the young age of 60 and just picked up the heaviest thing she ever has in her life (I think). How awesome is that?
(I'll be posting Karen's deadlift to my IG page tomorrow morning so make sure to follow me
there! If you don't, you can do that HERE!)
Looking back at her training programs, she started working out at B3 on April 29th, 2022. That was her very first workout with me. That day, she deadlifted a whopping 55lbs for 10 reps. She probably could have gone heavier but as a good trainer, you want to make sure that first session is rock solid and not too much! By the end of that first program (which was 6 weeks) she was
up to 100lbs for 10 reps. Clearly she was getting strong and was going to be a very strong woman as we got deeper into weight lifting. Fast forward to almost exactly 3 years, and she just deadlifted over 2x since starting with me. Crazy!
This is to highlight that hard work pays off. At ANY age. You can get strong at ANY age. You just need to put the time in, commitment and have a really good trainer by your side to direct you along the way😉😁! Ha! All I did was provide Karen the tools, and she put in the hard work by showing up to B3 each week. Even after working all week. Even after taking care of her wonderful but crazy husband all week. Even after baby sitting her two
wild grandson's the entire day on Friday's before she comes to train at B3 in the afternoon. Karen always shows up and I'm so happy for how strong she has gotten!
Women...you NEED to strength train. Be like Karen. You need to lift
some heavy weights each week. This will help immensely with aging, menopause, pre + post menopause and all those things that come with being a women. Weight lifting will help with osteopenia + osteoporosis as well as atrophy + sarcopenia. Weight lifting is the secret to making everything in your life a little bit easier. I promise you.
Speaking of menopause...I have been involved with Bill Campbell, PhD, Professor at University of South Florida and world-renowned performance and physique enhancement researcher on the first, and largest, survey of women on menopause that’s ever been conducted. Bill is leading a team of experts in all areas of
nutrition, physique, menopause, research, evaluation, and communication to gather information from pre-, peri-, and post-menopausal women to inform next steps in research and practice in a very under explored area that affects half the population.
The team has developed a very comprehensive survey for females
that resistance train that was just launched nationally last week and would appreciate your completion of it. You have valuable insights to add and we plan to use the survey responses to inform national recommendations in the menopause space and further funding opportunities to explore this more.
Thank you all in advance for your time -
your feedback will help lend informative to this under explored field! (only females can fill out the survey😉)
