Happy Sunday!
I've been golfing a TON lately. It's been great to get out
there every weekend with my buddies. I envision my retirement one day to involve a lot of golf...and pickleball of course 😉...so getting really, really good now will save me a lot of frustration in my later years of life! Kidding. Kind of. Golf is very frustrating...if you let it be. We're all not going to make the PGA so getting upset when you duff it or hit it into the woods does us no justice. We just usually get more upset at ourself and then shank the next one as well
😅!
BUT, what does help in golf is a proper warm-up. Something to get those juices flowing and tell your body whats to come. Many people don't warm-up for golf...including my friends who I golf with every weekend. Just like before we do any type
of workout, we warm-up a bit. This tells our nervous system which muscles are going to be fired, it primes our body for the movements to come and it warms the muscles were going to use so you don't tear, rip or pull anything.
Here's 3
moves below that can help prime you for your next round of 18. These moves are similar to what the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) teaches their members. Give them a try in between your putting warm-ups or driving range warm-ups!
- 90-90 Hip Stretch
- These will open up your hips - both external and internal - to get your body ready to use them while swinging.
- This is THE BEST hip stretch in my opinion. I do them every single day even when I'm not golfing.
- 2x10 each side will do the trick.
- You could also try hip "flipping" while on the ground. Alternate between
sides allowing your knees to hit the ground to get your hips to open up even more!
- Try it - 90-90 HERE.
2. Face Down Swimmers
- These are GREAT for your upper body posterior chain. These will really open up your shoulders so you are able to rotate nicely at the thoracic region (middle of your body).
- Our shoulders need to be able to move freely if we want to hit the ball flush. If we are super tight up top, the club won't move
freely through our swing.
- 2x10 with these are solid.
- Give these a try - Swimmers HERE.
3. Lateral Cable Rotations
- The most important thing with golf is rotation. If you can't get your body to rotate and get through the ball, you're going to struggle immensely. Golf is ALL about rotation.
- Obviously we all don't have access to a cable tower before our round but just doing
this move with body weight, with a club in your hand or with a band is GREAT.
- This will prime your body for rotation which is what we do every single time we swing a club.
- 2x10 each side works well.
- Try em' out - Cable rotation HERE.
Those three moves above can get you moving a little better before your round. Hitting the driving range and alternating between these bodyweight warm-ups will absolutely have you primed
for the day. I can't tell you if these moves will improve your score 😅 but they will definitely make you move and feel better.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Have a great day!
