Happy Sunday!
Fiber..we ALL need it. But do we
ALL get enough of it? Everyone needs to poop. Everyone also needs to eat fiber. If you're not pooping (each day) or eating fiber (each day) then your digestion system doesn't like that very much! And you need to start making some big ol' changes!
No one likes talking about going to the bathroom. But, it's a necessity of life and a good indication if you're healthy or not! (There's a reason for those colonoscopy's...ya know 😏). Did you know, a lot of adults in America don't poop every day?! Thats crazy town to me. As someone who's very good with their nutrition and fiber intake, I just don't get how people can go days on end without going to the bathroom! That's the sign of something not working
correctly and you not doing your job as an adult.
Let's talk about what Fiber actually is and what it does - then I'll give you some suggestions below of where to find it. In a nutshell (ha), Fiber helps the body’s digestion system. It
passes through our digestion track undigested helping us keep hunger and blood sugar levels in check. It also ensures that we have regular bowel movements and good bacteria in our gut which, in-turn, can help fight off certain cancers that could develop within our digestive track and colon. Fiber will also help us stay satiated, keeping hunger pains at bay and allowing us to maintain a healthy lifestyle for our body.
We want to ingest different types of fiber sources as well and not always get it from the same one over and over again. This will diversify our food pallet - offering many other health benefits when we eat an array of healthy, fiber rich foods. We want to make sure we are getting fiber from fruits,
vegetables, nuts, legumes and whole foods.
Tips for Fiber intake:
- Most adults should be consuming 25-35g of fiber PER
day.
- Eat WHOLE foods. Eating the apple is better than drinking the apple juice.
- Snack on veggies and nuts instead of chips.
- Supplements are there to SUPPLEMENT your diet. You should aim to ALWAYS have real food.
- Here's a little picture of foods that contain fiber below
that I pulled right from the Google machine.
