Happy Sunday!
Vacations...everyone needs em' and everyone
loves em'! At least I hope you love going on vacation...I sure do! We all work really hard so I hope you take some time for yourself to do things you enjoy😇.
But, when we go on vacation, thats not an excuse to stray super far from our normal daily
routines. Sure, it's not going to be EXACTLY what we do when we are in the comfort of our own home and routine - but we can get it pretty close. Here's some ways that I stay on top of my routine when Julie and I go away for a week:
GET OUR STEPS IN!
- Vacation is the PERFECT time to get a tonnnnn of steps in! You're in a new place so what better way to explore than walk everywhere you go! Walk around the resort, walk around the downtown area, walk around the beach (if there is one), walk around anywhere and everywhere...just WALK! You have no place to be. No time commitment. Get some steppies in. Its super
freakin' easy to hit 10k per day on vacation!
HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE!
- Going away on any trip usually involves some alcohol...which is totally fine! In moderation
of course. But, that means we should be drinking more water and electrolytes than normal! Especially for me..I rarely drink alcohol, like ever. Buttttt on vacation, I dip my toes in the water a little and relax with some beverages. EVERY single morning I make it a point to drink 20oz of electrolytes (I do this while at home anyways). This will keep be hydrated for the day and replace what I lost from the day before. I'll usually double my water and double my
electrolyte intake on vacation...alcohol and sun are very dehydrating!
PROTEIN AT EACH MEAL!
- You should already know the drill by now, protein is very important for us.
Builds muscle and keeps us full. Especially on vacation, we NEED to intake protein in order to keep us satiated for longer periods of time. This will also help us stay away from too many breads, desserts, snacks and all of the other super high calorie food and drinks we tend to consume on vacation! I also bring my SEEQ protein with me and make a point to have a 25g protein shake EVERYDAY we are there. This ensures I'm getting
enough protein and enough HIGH quality protein...if I need to, I'll have 2 shakes some days.
YOGA FLOW & DAILY STRETCHING!
- I'm a big mobility guy these days. I try to move
my body a lot because I tend to get very stiff....especially on vacation when I'm not on my feet for 12 hours a day like I usually am at my studio with clients. Every morning I wake up, I'll do a little yoga flow on the balcony of the hotel. I'll get some sunlight, hear the ocean and get into a nice stretch to get my body ready for the day. Keeping our muscles active while away is something we always want to do!
ZERO LIFTING OF WEIGHTS!
- Yup, you read that right...Nick does not lift weights on vacation. Heck, I never even go to the gym thats at the hotel 😂! This is vacation for me. This is time where
my body needs rest. We always want to take a week off from lifting here and there...in scientific terms its called a "deload week". This is because when we lift weights, our muscular system and neurological system are always under constant stress. Not lifting for a week or doing suppppper light exercises for a week is good for us from time to time. It lets our body heal, recover and be ready to go when we are back at it that next week!
Those are a few things I do when I go away on vacation! I don't stray much, but I stray just enough to give my body some nice rest and relaxation. It's a little reset...we all need time away. I love my job, but its nice & relaxing on a beach
for a week as well!😎🏝
*Reminder to all my in person clients, I'm away all week! So don't show up to the studio🤪*
