Artificial sweeteners...ahhh thats a nice buzz word in the
fitness industry. I mean, theres a lot of "buzz" words but this one has been around for a while. I say it all the time, many people THINK they know what they are talking about when it comes to fitness..it's because they listen to silly people who have no knowledge. Let's dive into the research.Â
Â
So..are artificial sweeteners bad for us? HECK no. I'll give you the truth right out of the gate. They are demonized for tons of reasons by people who have no business giving fitness advice. Here's a few reasons why THEY ARE GREAT:
- Many human controlled studies show they are safe to consume in whatever dosage you'd like.Â
- They provide a 0 to low calorie way of enjoying some of your favorite foods.
- They aid in weight loss by helping you avoid higher calorie options.
- They are safe to consume over years and years and years.
- They help someone by reaching for a diet coke that has 0 calories instead of a regular coke loaded with 30g+ of sugar and over 100
calories.Â
- They are flat out just a great tool for people to utilize.Â
Â
If you don't believe me. Look at this study HERE by the NIH showing how non-nutritive sweetened beverages vs water and the effects they had after a 52-week weight management study.Â
Â
Or look at this study HERE that shows the effects of stevia, aspartame, and sucrose on food intake, satiety, and postprandial glucose and insulin levels.
Â
Or this one on the overview of the safety of sucralose...HERE
Â
Anyways. Artificial sweeteners are not terrible for us. They are safe, effective and are going to be around. Might as well understand them before you demonize them😇 . If you still aren't convinced, read this article HERE as well.Â
