Happy Sunday!
The seasons are changing.
It's getting cold.
I hate it. I
wish I lived somewhere warmer. Like really. I hate the cold more than anyone. It's probably because I'M ALWAYS COLD. I always have my UGG's on at home...yes, just like Tom Brady.
ANYWAYSSSS. It's getting colder. Which means more people are going to
have stuffy noses, coughs, sore throats and all those types of common cold thingys. We get it...the winter causes more people to be sick. But why? Here are 4 common examples we see as to WHY people tend to get sicker in the winter other than it just being cold.
#1 - Breathing more recycled air/Less time outside
We tend to be indoors more during the colder months. This means we get less exposure to natural air, sunlight and more exposure to constant heating and recycled air. We spend less time outside. We spend less time with the windows open in our house, at
work and in our cars. We essentially just breathe shittier air. Breathing crappy air makes our lunges, throats and respiratory systems not too happy. Try to get outside a little and breath fresh air/get some sun. I know it's cold. But do it anyways.
#2 - Eating shitter food
Holidays happen in the winter. Allllll kinds of holidays no matter your race, religion, height, weight, or whatever else you wanna throw in here. And let's face it, traditional "holiday food" is not the healthiest. We tend to see a lot of foods made with crap tons of butter, sugar, dense breads
and a TON of calories at functions. A lot of people don't have the best habits when it comes to nutrition...but that gets multiplied 100X when holidays come around. My guess is from October to February...thats when the most sugar is consumed. It's also the time of year people get the sickest. Put the two together. Try to eat some greens or healthy stuff once in a while this holiday season. Crappy foods make your body feel crappy.
#3 - Consuming WAY more alcohol
Let's face it, we have an alcohol problem in this world. And it gets severely overlooked. Especially during the holiday
seasons, people drink WAY more. We also drink way more calorically dense drinks like egg nog, coffees with all kinds of alcohol and crap in them, heavy beers, etc. Drinking alcohol is not good. Under any circumstances. It's a poison to our bodies. It will also cause our immune system to run down, not operate the best and cause us to probably catch colds easier. Limit the alcohol. Do some other stuff instead.
#4. Less movement
It's cold. We don't want to move. We want to snuggle in our blankets and lay on the couch. We move WAY less in the colder months. Just like above, we
spend less time outside which means less movement. We want to be under blankets and not walk around our houses as much. We park closer to stores, work, etc. so we can get into a warmer place faster. We become lazy in the winter months which makes our immune system lazy as well. When we move more, we are healthier. Our body thrives off of movement. Get some movement. Don't be a lazy piece of crap because its cold. The human body was meant to move...if you don't move it...it'll get mad at you and
give you a cold.
Overall, we just become lazy in the winter months. We can't hibernate like bears (although some of us do) so we don't have the ability to eat whatever we want in hopes that when Spring comes, our body sheds all of that unwanted body
fat. I wish it worked like that but our systems are designed in a way in which thats not very good for us. Do some stuff you do in the warmer months to fight away colds. Your body will thank ya for it.
I rarely get sick. Heck, I don't know the
last time I was (other than just some lil sniffles here and there...I'm talking call out of work sick). I've trained clients prettttyyyy consistently for the last 4+ years during the you know what pandemic. Pretty strange, since I'm around a ton of people ya know? I take care of my body, eat pretty darn healthy most of the time, get some daily movement, drink alcohol maybe 1x per month? Drink electrolytes daily, strength train, eat meat, eat veggies, I do alllllll the good stuff for my body.
This is not meant to brag. It's meant to show you (and kinda prove) that a healthier body does not get sick. You should not get sick so often. That is your body telling you something is wrong. Once you start fixing the stuff thats wrong, your body will love you and freaking thrive. So...I don't know...do with that info what ya want!
Have a great week!
