Good morning!
I hope this dreary Sunday morning (if you're in the NE area)
motivates you to do some things today you've been putting off for a while. Rainy days are always good for that!
Anywaysssss...too many people have unrealistic expectations today. With everything...not just fitness related. Jobs, money, success; you
name it and people expect things just to happen to them just because. This comes from the "everyone gets a trophy" saying...which I love. Because everyone should not get a trophy. Nope. Not ever. I don't care if you're 3 years old and playing soccer or a college student getting a scholarship..that saying pertains to a lot of things in life. And I come from a sports background, so I've been around trophies my entire life.
Giving everyone a trophy sets you up to fail, in my opinion. Why? If you did not work hard, why do you get praise for it? If you did not come in 1st, why is that a success? If you lie, cheated or stole, why do you still get a trophy? This has a compounding
effect throughout your entire life. From the time you are 3 years old playing soccer to the time you are 22 years old stepping out into the real world to get a job. It really matters. I was brought up to win. My dad's side of the family was (and still is) very competitive in everything we did, but especially sports. I grew up with the nature to win at all costs, work as hard as possible, because then that win is that much sweeter in the end. This has followed me throughout my
life from sports to where I am now...a pretty successful business owner at 32 years old. And I'm not satisfied. Happy, yes, but never satisfied😉.
I give my full effort with everything I do because I know hard work WILL
ALWAYS pay off in the end. Just keep effing working. No matter what. I have an endless pursuit to be the best I can be with everything in life. There is always a fire burning under me. This mindset pertains a lot to fitness. I have a lot of clients who struggle to lose weight, count their calories and most of all, be fucking consistent. Many think by working with me once or a few times per week, working out for a few months, eating healthy a few times a
week, they should be where they want to be body composition wise...in a sense they should be "getting a trophy" because they are kinda working at it. Most of the time you're giving a half ass effort, so no, you do not get your "trophy". You need to put in the work day in and day out to get to where you want to be. And compound this over years and years.
Let me put it to you this way - many of you have college degrees, some probably with higher level degrees like Master's and Doctorates. How long did it take you to get that degree? How many hours, weeks, years did it take you to get there? Did you study for a week and now you have your Bachelor's degree. Did you work
hard constantly for 2 months and now you have your Doctorate degree? Mhmmm I don't think so. See how fucking silly that sounds. The answer to all those above is NO. You needed to work hard for years and years and years to be awarded with that degree. And when you worked hard for years and years and years and FINALLY got that degree, I bet it felt ohhhh so good. Kinda like getting a trophy. But, too many people these days are awarded for things
they have no business being awarded for which sets a lot of people up to fail in other aspects of their lives.
Think of fitness (and life) in that same sense as above. One week won't cut it. Nor will one month. Nor will one year. Fitness is for
life. You don't get a trophy after a month or 2 months or a week of hitting your calories. You get a trophy when you fucking deserve it and have put the time, effort and consistency in to get that trophy. If you want it bad enough, you'll do what it takes to get there. Not just in fitness, but whatever else you want to do in this very short lifetime we have.
Have a great week!
