The barbell deadlift is THE best exercise in my opinion. This is just MY
opinion. Not yours. Not a Dr. Not your friend Sally or Bob who say never to deadlift. Mine.
This is because we deadlift multiple times per day, every day of ours lives. When you put on your socks/shoes, thats a deadlift. When you pick up dog poop, yup..thats deadlifting. When you bend over to do loads of laundry, again, deadlifting. See a common trend here?
This is why I emphasize deadlifting and hinge movements...because you are going to do them EVERYDAY..so why not get really good and really effing strong in that position. Remember, lifting weights is for life, not just to look cool in the gym.
Do hinge movements you can tolerate. Bridges, hip thrusts, seated hinges, cat/cow, dead bugs and bird dogs are a great place to start you getting into "hingy" type positions.
Deadlifting is the best exercise to strengthen your lower back...the best.
If you get really strong at this hinge movement, I promise your lower back will thank you, not get mad at you.
Use SLOW progressions. No, you don't need to deadlift 300lbs...but, once you get really good at hinge movements, you may someday wanna deadlift 300lbs...I have a few clients who can speak to that! Getting really efficnet at the movmenet is the name of the game, then the weight can come
later.
